How many students are you accepting?
We are accepting anywhere from 10 to 12 students. There are 22 students in the program total.


Which hours during the day can we work?
Stroke Study students work from 8am-12am 7 days a week 365 days a year.


What are the duties and responsibilities of students in the study?
The student is responsible for attending an assigned shift for the quarter. This shift entails volunteering in the Emergency Room and rapidly contacting the UCLA Stroke Network of any potential stroke patients who are present in the UCLA Emergency Room. The student is also required to attend a formal training session, 3 general meetings, UCLA hospital volunteer orientation, and two Neurological Rounds.


Do I receive hospital volunteer hours as well as SRP credit for participating in this program?
Yes, receive SRP credit and hospital volunteer hours.


How long are the informational meetings?
The informational meetings typically last anywhere from 2-3 hours.


Is there a particular way I should dress for the informational meeting? And for the program?
Dress to the Informational meeting and for a shift in the Emergency Room is the same business professional attire.


What do I need to bring with me to the informational meeting?
The only thing we ask that you bring to the meeting is a picture in which your face is clearly visible.


How many hours per week do I have to work?
You are assigned a 4-6 hour shift per week in the Emergency Room.


Are you looking for Spring Quarter and Summer Volunteers? If I can only participate in Spring does it hurt my chances for acceptance into the program?
Currently we are looking for Spring Quarter volunteers. If you can stay for the summer that would be great, but it is not required.


When is your next recruitment?
Our recruitment is need based and thus infrequent.


Do you accept all students who apply?
No, unfortunately due to scheduling conflicts and the number of students required to efficiently run the program we cannot accept all the students who apply.


Are there any qualifications needed in order to participate?
The only requirements are that you are a student with the desire to learn about medicine.


If I am unable to attend the informational meetings is there still a way I can participate in the program?
Unfortunately, attendance at the informational meeting is mandatory. If you cannot attend this meeting, you cannot participate in the program that quarter.
